ClarkeLabs are breast cancer research laboratories in the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University. The two principal investigators are Dr. Robert Clarke and Dr. Leena Hilakivi-Clarke

Robert Clarke, Ph.D., D.Sc.

Dr. Clarke's research interests include understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving antiestrogen resistance and hormone independence in breast cancer. He also is interested in drug resistance (cytotoxic, endocrine, chemopreventive agents), drug/hormone interactions, and the application of molecular profiling ( e.g., gene expression microarrays, serial analysis of gene expression, tissue arrays) to predict breast cancer phenotypes and identify functionally relevant gene signaling networks.

Dr. Clarke is Co-Director of the Breast Cancer Program at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center

Leena Hilakivi-Clarke, Ph.D.

Dr. Hilakivi-Clarke's research interests include understanding the importance of timing of exposure to estrogens, phytoestrogens, and other dietary/nutrition components on the programming of mammary gland development and its effects on breast cancer susceptibility. She also is active in exploring gene-nutrient interactions and their role in affecting breast cancer risk and progression.

Dr. Hilakivi-Clarkeis Co-Director of the Division of Molecular Endocrinology, Nutrition and Obesity.
