Our Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Working Group consists of investigators and consultants at several institutions in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The primary research investigators and educators are at Georgetown University (G.U.), Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VA Tech ) and The Catholic University of America (C.U.A.), with other investigators and consultants at The National Institutes of Health (National Human Genome Research Institute; National Institute of Child Health and Development), The Food and Drug Administration (Medical Imaging and Computer Applications Branch), Celera Genomics, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (In Vivo Cellular Molecular Imaging Center; Departments of Radiology and Urology), and Children's National Medical Center (CNMC).    
 

Research Mission (Top of Page)
The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Working Group is specifically focused on conducting research into data mining and analysis in very high dimensional data space, with a particular emphasis on transcriptome (gene expression microarrays; serial analysis of gene expression) and proteome analyses (two dimensional gel electrophoresis). While our algorithms and approaches can be applied to many problems in high dimensional data space, our main interests are in the biomedical research field and specifically to cancer research.
 

Teaching Mission (Top of Page)
Members are committed to educating students in bioinformatics and its application in biomedical research. Our members are mentors for students primarily at the Graduate and Postgraduate levels. Various aspects of bioinformatics also are included in several courses taught at VA Tech and the Catholic University of America and at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
